Drought Tolerant Grass -
(AVAILABLE FROM MERCED, CA SOUTH TO SAN DIEGO)
We start of with a "Water Star" seed which produces a hybrid drought tolerant Bermuda grass with a natural dark green color and medium leaf texture. It has an aggressive growth habit for quick recovery from high traffic and pets. Tifway is a very dense, low-growing, fine-textured turf which produces lateral runners requiring concrete borders for containment. Tifway 419 can be mowed with either a rotary or reel mower. This Bermuda grass is water conservative and becomes dormant in winter yet exhibits early spring green-up.
MOWING:
Mow seven days after installation. Mow to a height of 3/8 to 3/4 inches. Over-seeded Tifway Bermuda should be mowed at least once a week. Never mow more than one third of the blade at one time; it may injure the plant. This Bermuda can be mowed with both Reel and Sharp Rotary Mower.
WATERING:
For the first 20 days, water as needed to keep the topsoil moist to a 3-inch depth. After 20 days, water two or more times a week during warm weather. In cooler weather, water once or twice a week. Sandy soil requires more frequent watering than clay soil. Inland areas require more water than coastal areas. Special attention should be paid to slopes and mounds where runoff occurs. More frequent, shorter watering may be necessary.
DETHATCHING:
To minimize thatch, dethatch at least once every two years. It may be done as often as once a year. The preferable time to dethatch is in the spring.
